Grade Separation at Tayyouneh Roundabouts

General Description

The project consists of constructing a New Grade Sparation at Tayounneh Roundabout (650 m long) to improve and ensure better circulation and mobility in accordance with the Traffic analysis and International Standards requirements.

The Works

The Works consist of upgrading the Tayounneh roundabout that connects the main four corridors: Chatila, Sami El Solh Avenue, Omar Beyhum Street, and Old Saida Road. It covers a total length of 650 meters approximately.

The Works include the execution of :

·          A tunnel of 130m length, at the Old Saida Road, with two one-way lanes, for vehicles heading to Omar Beyhum street, and the access ramp that leads to the tunnel.

·          Two underpasses at the location of the roundabout, each of 20m length, and 2 x 2 lanes separated by walls, for the traffic heading from Omar Beyhum Street towards the Old Saida road and vice-versa.

·          An open circulation trench with 2x2 lanes separated by a median lane, that connects the two underpasses, and another open trench 110m long approximately that connects the tunnel with the underpass 2.

·          The access ramps that joins the underpasses with the upper roads on Omar Beyhum Street and Old Saida Road.

The presence of a water table at a depth of 3 to 6m below the existing sloping pavement has imposed to foresee all the tunnel and underpasses bottom slabs in raft foundation, and the walls in reinforced concrete, forming a closed frame having a width of 8m in each direction (2x2 lanes). The retaining walls have a height varying between 2m and 8m approximately, their foundation was foreseen in raft for those who rest on water.

Water infiltration is prohibited in the closed reinforced concrete frames of the underpasses and tunnel and in the U-sections of the open trenches by the execution of a tanking-waterproofing system formed by a waterproofing membrane and protection as described in division 5 of these specifications. On the vertical parts, the waterproofing membrane shall extend to 1.5m above the watertable and a damp proofing coating shall be used in the remaining vertical parts above the watertable. A previous gravel bed of 50 cm encompasses the structures and the tanking system.
